On August 28th, at the moment when the 9th BRICS Summit is to be held in Xiamen in September, a large-scale international photography exhibition themed as Glamour of BRICS Countries is unveiled in Xiamen Art of Museum. This exhibition, which demonstrates the diverse and rich culture and heritage of eastern and western countries and links the past with the present, is a gift presented to this conference in Xiamen.

Though coming from different continents with different culture, the BRICS countries were all great power countries with rich and profound history and culture in humankind’s history. The Chinese civilization, Slav Civilization, Hindu Civilization, Latin America and African Culture are all treasures of humankind and highlights of the history of humankind’s civilization. The history of cooperation and communication among BRICS countries can be also considered as a history of cultural exchange, leading to the communication and integration between different cultures.

This exhibition is co-hosted by the Reignwood Culture Foundation and TISA (China Tourism Innovation Strategic Association). A collection of 100 fine photos selected from about 100 thousand shot by world-famous photographer Michael Yamashita, forms this exhibition. Apart from these photographs by Yamashita, which make up the main parts of photos shown at the exhibition, photos depicting participant countries including South Africa, Russia, Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, Tajikistan, the Republic of Guinea, etc. are also added to this exhibition.

The photographer Michael Yamashita, who is from U.S.A, has been shooting for the National Geographic magazine for over 30 years and is the magazine’s most frequently used photographer. Since 2016, Reignwood Culture Foundation, in cooperation with the U.S. National Geographic magazine and Chinese Culture Promotion Society, has held 13 international exhibitions themed as the Silk Road Journey in many countries and regions including China, USA, UK, Singapore, etc. This exhibition made its appearance at many major meetings including the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing and the Hong Kong One Belt One Road Summit Forum. Serving as a bridge for cultural exchange between the east and the west, this exhibition won high praises from the former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the UK.

The mutual learning between different cultures is the foundation for deepening cooperation among countries around the world. From the First Meeting of BRIC Foreign Ministers in 2006 to the First Meeting of BRIC Leaders in 2009, and then to this upcoming BRICS Summit to be held on 3rd September, 2017, this mechanism of BRICS countries have stepped into its second decade. Since the financial crisis, emerging countries, represented by the BRICS countries, have injected strong power into the world economy. This summit is expected to deepen partnership among emerging countries and jointly promote the building of an open world economy and contribute to world economic growth.
